Pastor Folashade Olukoya ‘s EARLY YEARS

Sister Shade, who shares the same birthdate with her husband, was born on July 15, 1957, as the fifth child out of seven children, to Mr. and Mrs. George F. Adesanya. All the Adesanya children were raised as devout Christians who regularly worshipped at Christ Apostolic Church. Sister Shade’s father held the esteemed position of Marine Engineer at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for an extensive duration. He prioritized the provision of quality education for each of his children.

As a small child, Sis. Shade showed so much interest in creativity, especially in the natural habitat, which kept her wondering about God and his works. She also received a lot of encouragement from her father upon realising her artistic gift. Sis. Shade cites her sense of imaginative composition as another special gift from God that has helped her tremendously in her Art career.

Sis Shade received her Primary education at Surulere Baptist School, Modupe Johnson, and afterwards enrolled at Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls Secondary School, Sabo, Yaba, for her secondary education. Furthermore, she was a student at Ajjeh Comprehensive High School during the tenure of the Jakande administration in Lagos State.

Sister Shade received her Bachelor of Arts and a diploma in Fine Arts and Interior Decoration from the Darnley Career Academy in London, United Kingdom.  In 2021, she was conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) by Mountain Top University. She earned a postgraduate degree from the Royal College of Arts in the United Kingdom on Monday, March 7, 2022.

How Folashade Olukoya Met Dr. D. K. Olukoya

Dr. D. K. Olukoya used to be a music director. At that time, he taught music at Sister Shade’s church. At some point, he had to leave to go get his doctorate. One day, while he was ministering to the congregation about marriage, God revealed to him that Sister would be his wife. He fasted and prayed to confirm the revelation, and it came to be true. This was also confirmed by his father, who was also a pastor.

After he got his degree, he went back to Sister Shade’s church. But this time, instead of being a music director, he came back as a preacher. One day, he called her to his office and told her, “I am not a man of many words, but I am led by the power of the Holy Spirit, and God is telling me that you are my wife.”

She was stunned and couldn’t say anything for a moment. He also told her to pray about it. After fasting and praying for three days, she had a revelation where she saw herself being given to the man of God. She then knew she was going in the right direction.

During their courtship, they engaged in marathon prayers, and encouraged each other. Dr. Olukoya also taught her how to teach and always gave her 10 minutes to minister whenever they went to a program.

They got married in 1986. Both of them agreed that there would be no food and reception during their wedding. So after the wedding, there was no food to serve the guests while some of his friends have made arrangements for food.

As the meeting ended, his friends began to eat while he was not served since he said no food and no reception. After the whole wedding, he and his wife went home and use the reception time as a time of prayer and dedication of themselves to God.
