You might have heard that for the past two years, some Canadian Industries That Need Workers have done so because of a lack of workers on the job market, and this has negatively impacted Canada’s economy in a way that has never happened before. Statistics Canada’s most recent report says that there were 991,680 job openings across the country in the third quarter of 2022.
This is a big jump from 2015, when there were only 407,865 job openings. Canada’s population has also been growing quickly, mostly because of people who don’t live there permanently.
Even though the number of open jobs has gone down a little bit in the first quarter of 2023, there are still a lot of opportunities in fields that require higher education. This is good news for workers from outside of Canada who want to move there.
Employers in Canada are hiring more people from other countries. In January, employment grew by 150,000. If you work in one of the following three fields, you have a better chance of getting a job this year because they are the ones with the most job openings.
The Skilled Trades
All over the country, there is a big need for trained tradespeople. There are a lot of people retiring from this business, and it is thought that about 700,000 people will retire between 2019 and 2028. This means that in the coming years, there will be a need for thousands of new workers to take their place.
The industries that need more people the most are construction and making things out of metal. In 2022, they had a record number of open jobs. In January 2023, they added 16,000 jobs. Between 2016 and 2021, the number of training certificates in mechanics and repair technologies has gone down. Precision production has also gone down. If you want to work in these trades, you should focus on the Atlantic states, Ontario, and Alberta, where the number of tradespeople is going down.
Wholesaling and Selling in Stores
In addition to manufacturing and handling, the wholesale and retail trade industries also need skilled workers. Since the pandemic, there have been gaps in this business. The amount of full-time jobs that are open has gone up from 8,720 in Q3 2015 to 14,335 in Q3 2022. Food and beverage stores have seen the most growth. Between 2019 and 2022, the number of jobs in this field has grown by 4.0%.
Wholesale and retail trade can be a good choice if you like talking to and helping people. The pay is fair, and there is room for growth in your career. The training standards for this job are flexible, so you can move from sales to management in as little as four years.
Health and Social Care
When discussing the pandemic’s effects, health care is one of the first things that comes to mind. In the first quarter of 2023, the number of job openings rose the most in the health care and social assistance areas. Registered nurses and registered mental nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates are the top three jobs with the most openings.
