Canada Immigration has made a list of 24 jobs that people from other countries, like Nigeria, would need to do to be eligible for a faster and easier Express Entry draw in 2023 and 2024.
This happened after the country brought in health care workers from more than 500 different countries.
STEM jobs may make it easier for skilled newcomers to become permanent residents in Canada.
Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, said, “Canada’s ability to stay on the cutting edge of science, technology, engineering, and math depends a lot on our country’s ability to hire the best people from all over the world.”
He talked about the STEM category-based selection round and how it could make it easier for skilled workers with STEM skills to get permanent residency.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) says that architects, architecture and science managers, business systems specialists, civil engineers, computer and information systems managers, and computer engineers (but not software engineers or designers) are eligible for the STEM category-based draw.
Others are computer systems developers and programmers, cybersecurity experts, data scientists, database analysts, and data directors, electrical and electronics engineers and engineering managers, industrial and manufacturing engineers, and information systems specialists.
The rest are land surveyors, landscape planners, mathematicians, statisticians, actuaries, metallurgical and materials engineers, researchers, consultants, and program officers in natural and applied science policy.
Software developers and programmers, software engineers and designers, urban and land use planners, web designers, web developers, and web programmers.
“To be eligible, you must have had at least six months of continuous work experience in a single listed occupation in the last three years, either in Canada or abroad,” the IRCC said.
Canada’s express entry is an online method that skilled workers can use to get permanent residency from the Canadian government. It’s the main way the country handles skilled worker applications for entry to Canada.
Lawyers at the First Immigration Law Firm in Canada say that there are many different ways for professionals and workers to get a permanent resident visa for Canada.
“Express Entry is the most popular choice because it is Canada’s main way for trained workers to get into the country. The best way to be qualified for the entry is to meet the requirements of either the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class, they said.
Canada’s labor force has been shrinking because of its older population and lower birth rate. This has forced the country to work harder to attract large numbers of young, active immigrants by making policies that are friendly to immigration.
Last year, the Canadian federal government announced an ambitious plan to let in 500,000 new immigrants each year by 2025. This means that over the next three years, almost 1.5 million new people will move to Canada.
According to Canada Immigration, the IRCC, there were 437,120 Permanent Residents in the country in 2022, which is almost 8% more than in 2021.
Last year, it went from 15,595 in Nigeria to 22,130, which is a growth of 41.9%.
