Exploring the Controversy: Catholic Priests and Same-Sex Marriage Blessings

Several Catholic priests have blessed same-sex marriage outside of Cologne Cathedral in Germany. This was a show of defiance against the conservative Archbishop of Cologne.

The protest happened after church leaders in Cologne condemned a priest who had held a “blessing ceremony for lovers” that included same-sex couples. This is something that the Vatican does not approve of.

Several hundred people came to the event, and around 30 same-sex and heterosexual couples were blessed.

People there waved rainbow flags and sang “All You Need Is Love” by the Beatles. This is the latest in a string of rebellious actions by progressive Christians in Germany’s most populous diocese.
